The Desert Swords of North Africa

The Scimitar-Horned Oryx, often referred to as “desert swords” due to their striking curved horns, are iconic antelopes native to North Africa’s deserts and arid regions.

Renowned for their unique adaptations to desert life, they sport pale white to light brown coats that reflect the harsh sun and long, elegantly curved horns resembling scimitar swords. Standing at 80-120 cm tall and weighing 140-210 kg, their slender build and long legs are well-suited for desert travel.

These herbivores thrive in arid environments, primarily grazing on tough desert grasses and vegetation.
